Stronger supervision will ensure food safety: Vice-minister

China has "zero tolerance" regarding agricultural products' safety issues and will make full efforts to provide safe and green food to the public by strengthening oversight, a senior official said on Saturday.
Zhang Taolin, China's vice-minister of agriculture and a member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said the central government attaches high importance to the safety of agriculture products. "In certain areas and during certain periods, some agricultural products were found with pesticide or artificial color. The authority will make a 100 percent effort to eliminate such cases," he said.
In the future, China's agriculture industry will shift from high-output to high-quality development, he said.
The government will promote less use of pesticides, fertilizers and antibiotics in the agriculture industry. Meanwhile, it will solve the soil contamination problem through multiple methods.
In past years, more than 90 percent of Chinese agriculture products met quality standards, Zhang said.
