China and Japan should firmly comply with the principles and consensus of the four political documents to bring bilateral ties back on the right track, Premier Li Keqiang stressed on Wednesday.

Li reiterated the stance when meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during his official visit to the country.

As neighboring countries and two important economies, healthy development of bilateral ties are in line with the interests of both sides, and regional and global peace and stability, Li said.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the signing of the China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship and bilateral ties are in key stages for further improvement, he said.

The premier called for strengthening political trust and expanding cooperation while re-learning the treaty's spirit. The consensus of taking each other as partners instead of threats should be realized to bring ties back to the right track and achieve long-term, healthy development, he added.
