Luo Zhiheng, chief economist and president of the Research Institute at Yuekai Securities, told China Daily in an exclusive interview that the recently introduced childcare subsidies indicate that fiscal policies are increasingly focused on the household sector, with further measures expected in areas related to people's livelihoods such as elderly care and healthcare. For example, the basic old-age pension level for rural and urban non-working residents is still modest, at just over 200 yuan per month. In the future, it could be gradually raised to the level of subsistence allowance - 600 yuan per month in rural areas and 800 yuan per month in urban areas.
