By WANG XIAODONG (chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2012-10-25 21:58

Scientists will select a site for China’s fourth scientific research station in Antarctica during its 29th scientific expedition to the continent that is scheduled to start on Nov 5.

The new site will be located between Zhongshan and Kunlun stations, the two stations that are separated by the greatest distance. Currently China has three scientific research stations in Antarctica. The first, known as the Great Wall Station, was established in 1985.

A total of 39 scientific surveys and research projects will be completed during the expedition.

The expedition team, which consists of 241 people, including researchers, managing staff, and reporters, will travel on the ship Xuelong for the 27,460-nautical mile (50,800 km) journey that is scheduled to take 162 days.
