Great improvements in people's livelihoods and social security have been witnessed in Tibet over the past decade.

By June, 2.3 million people had been covered by the social security system in the Tibet autonomous region, the Tibet Daily reported on Wednesday.

Since October, local authorities promised to invest 44 million yuan ($7 million) every year buying life and casualty insurance policies unconditionally for residents and registered monks and nuns in the region.

Favorable education policies have been introduced to the plateau as well.

Tuition fees were exempted in Chinese provincial regions from 2006. The State began to pay dinner, accommodation and tuition fees for Tibetan primary and middle school students living in farming and pastoral areas in 1985.

From this year on, the government will exempt tuition fees for pre-school students in Tibet, meaning the autonomous region will be the first in the country to offer free education up to 15 years.

About 99.32 percent of colleague graduate students from the region found jobs in 2011.
