Terracotta army on display in Denmark

By Xinhua in Aarhus, Denmark (China Daily) Updated: 2015-04-03 07:32

An exhibition featuring China's first emperor Qin Shi Huang and his terracotta army kicked off on Wednesday in Aarhus, the second-largest city in Denmark.

The exhibition is a part of a series of cultural exchanges to commemorate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Denmark and the People's Republic of China.

The exhibition, The First Emperor - China's Terracotta Army, was opened by Danish Prince Consort Henrik at the Moesgaard Museum on the outskirts of Aarhus.

Queen of Denmark Margrethe II also attended the opening ceremony after a brief tour of the exhibition accompanied by Chinese ambassador to Denmark Liu Biwei and Danish Minister for Culture Marianne Jelved.

Addressing a crowd of invited guests at the opening ceremony, Liu said that China and Denmark have been enjoying close cooperation over the years and that people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries have highlighted deepening ties.

"With the joint efforts of all parties, the friendly Sino-Danish relationship will embrace a brighter future," Liu said.

Jan Skamby Madsen, director of the Moesgaard Museum, said the exhibition will introduce Danish and international visitors to "a remarkable and significant era in Chinese history".

"Through the personal story of Emperor Qin Shi Huang and his spectacular achievements, we wish to enhance the interest in Chinese history and culture in general," Madsen said.

The exhibition displays 104 objects from Emperor Qin Shi Huang's tomb and from the Qin (221-206 BC) and Han (206BC-220) dynasties.

The exhibition will last till Sept 30.
