Sharing the wealth

A Chinese painting exhibition at the National Museum of China speaks to a collector's ultimate wish - to share his treasures with the general public for free. The nearly 50 ink-and-water works come from the collection of Sun Zhao (1899-1966), a middle school Chinese teacher and art connoisseur. His three children donated more than 100 works to the museum in 1982. The exhibition features such masters as Huang Gongwang, Ni Zan, Dong Qichang and Giuseppe Castiglione. It outlines Chinese painting's evolution during the Yuan (1271-1368), Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

9 am-5 pm, no admission after 4 pm, closed on Mondays, permanent exhibition. National Museum of China, east of Tian'anmen Square, 16 East Chang'an Avenue, Beijing.

010-6511-6400.
