Huian, located in East China's Fujian province, boasts a long-standing history of stone carving that dates back to 1,600 years ago.

Its beautiful coastline has a well-preserved fortress in rocks built centuries ago.

Heavenly Crafted, an ongoing exhibition at the National Museum of China, celebrates Huian's craftsmanship by showing more than 100 examples of carvings on rocks, wood and jade.

Carving is not only passed down as a folk art in Huian, but has also become a way of life and a business to keep local people connected to that world. The small county is home to more than 1,000 studios and factories, whose craved products appear on markets of Europe, Japan and Southeast Asia, yielding a yearly output valued at 15 billion yuan ($2.36 billion).

The exhibition runs through Oct 25.
