Safe and sound
 英國詩歌和成語中經常押頭韻(alliteration),所謂“頭韻”是指一連使用兩個或更多個以同一字母或同一發(fā)音開頭的單詞。例如:Round the rocks runs the river.

Safe and sound就是一個押頭韻的英語成語,意思是“安然無恙”。Sound作形容詞用,解釋為“完好的,健全的,無恙的,無損的”,例如:The surveyor reported that all the walls were completely sound.(房產檢視員報告說所有的墻壁都完好無損。)Safe也有“沒有受到損害的、無恙的,平安的”意思,safe和sound這兩個詞的意思其實有些重疊,不過,人們?yōu)榱搜侯^韻,也不介意語意重復了。

這個成語在很多場合都適用。

例如:

The fragile china survived the bumpy journey safe and sound.
那批易碎的瓷器經過顛簸的旅途而完好無損。

She was overjoyed when the police restored the child to her safe and sound.
警察把孩子毛發(fā)無損的交還給她,使她高興得不得了。
