With the idea of introducing the Blue Pingtan to more people, local tourism authorities decided to launch a tourism promotion campaign in nine cities of Fujian province, according to ptnet.cn on Jan 15.

The term Blue Pingtan came from the county's clear sky and sea as well as coastal landforms. The color of blue is considered a symbol of Pingtan.

The first stop of its promotion campaign?started in the Putian city on Jan 9. The authorities introduced Pingtan's history, culture and scenic spots through various activities. The activities included art performances, interaction programs, video broadcast and souvenir distribution among others.

Some Putian residents said that they gained a better understanding of Pingtan via the promotion event and its tourism sites quite appeal to them.

The Pingtan officials said that they expect to increase the influence of the county's tourism and help reach its goal of becoming an international tourist destination through such events.

The remaining eight cities include Jinjiang, Fuzhou, Zhangzhou, Ningde, Xiamen, and Longyan.
