A survey team from North China Electric Power University (NCEPU) visited Pingtan county last Wednesday to explore the future development of the power grid there.

The investigation was inspired by a promotional lecture given by Pingtan officials in Tsinghua University a couple of months ago, which made NCEPU's teachers interested at the possibilities of microgrid construction in Pingtan, said Wan Shuce, a member of the survey team.

On their three-day trip, the team will pay a visit to more related destinations such as the Changjiang'ao Wind Power Plant, 110kV Gongshuxia Transformer Substation and Pingtan Power Supply Company. They will hold promotion activities on safety utilization of electric power and give a final report on their research results.

Background information:

Microgrids are modern, small-scale versions of the centralized electricity system. They achieve specific local goals, such as enhancing reliability, reducing carbon emissions, diversifying energy sources and reducing costs established by the community being served.

The microgrid promotes the transition from traditional power grids to smart power grids. Experts are trying to include new energy resources such as wind energy, solar energy, marine energy and battery energy storage into the model to improve the power supply model, especially for island cities.
