Lenovo looks for momentum out of mobile device sales

The Chinese PC maker Lenovo Group Ltd said on Monday that it will spend about $800 million to build an industrial facility in Central China to strengthen its mobile-device business, the Wall Street Journal reported on its Chinese website.

In Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei province, the operation was designed to be the site of various tasks, including research and development, production and sales. The company hopes the new industrial base will help it generate 10 billion yuan ($1.6 billion) in revenue by 2014.

The industrial base is to be put into operation in October 2013.

The company is looking to get more business from sales of mobile devices rather than depending on selling laptop PCs.

Lenovo is also working to develop other mobile devices faster, including smartphones and tablet PCs, the report said, citing Yang Yuanqing, Lenovo chairman and CEO.

The new operation will make the company more capable of innovating and help it to "lay a concrete foundation" for its global business in mobile devices, Yang added.
