Customs authorities in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province, have ramped up efforts to adopt a new strategy to promote mobile tax payment and improve customs service.

The "Internet Plus" strategy, as it is known, enables enterprises to pay for tax online. The system eliminates the need for enterprises to print tax bills at customs counters and pay tax bills at banks.

Under the new system, enterprises are able to pay tax anytime and anywhere, without the time constraints of banks and customs procedures. The model has the potential to reduce costs and save time and energy for import and export enterprises. It will also increase the efficiency of clearance procedures.

In the first five months of 2015, mobile tax payments accounted for 60 percent of the total amount of customs-related tax paid, according to statistics from Zhangjiagang customs.

The "Internet Plus" initiative, announced by Premier Li Keqiang at the parliamentary sessions in March 2015, aims to integrate mobile Internet, cloud computing, big data and the Internet of Things with modern manufacturing. An array of industries are set to benefit from the initiative.
