Hongda Community in Tianshan district in the city of Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region opened a reading nook featuring "national unity" on April 7, with more than 2,000 books available for locals, wlmq.wenming.cn reported.

The reading nook also has minority ethnic community staff members teaching more than 20 residents the spoken and written languages of Uygur and Kazak every day.

A resident called Zhang Fengyue said that she can communicate with Uygur and Kazak neighbors in their languages after having classes at the reading nook.

Hongda community has eight ethnic groups and it set up the reading nook to help people better communicate with each other and to promote national unity.
