BAGHDAD - Iraq reopened its border crossings with Iran on Sunday after a three-day closure, which was part of border operations to crack down on insurgent violence in Iraq,Iraqi officials said.

The border point of Shalamcha, 70 km east of the southern city of Basra, has been reopened along with other border points on the 1,300 km border line between the two countries, commander of the director of operations said.

On Tuesday, Lieutenant General Abboud Gambar, commander of the Iraqi troops in Baghdad said that the borders with Syria and Iran would be closed for at least three days.

Washington accused Iran of providing aid and supplies, including parts of roadside bombs that targeted U.S. troops in Iraq, to the insurgents in Iraq. Iran denies the accusations.
