Driver mistakes red light for lanterns

Can Spring Festival decorations be taken too far? One driver in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, may have suffered from an overdose of red lanterns.

Red lanterns were installed on the overpasses in the city in order to evoke the joy of Spring Festival but a driver ran the red light because he failed to spot it amongst the many lanterns, reported hsw.cn on Wednesday.

He had the full amount of points – 12 – deducted from his driving license for the mistake although he claimed that the lanterns distracted him from the signal lights.
